Q: Why walking shoes, can't I just use the trainers I use for running / jogging?
A: Bear in mind that trainers for running, or other sports on smoother surfaces, are designed for their cushioning effect. Outdoor trekking footwear or walking shoes (also now known as cross trainers) will have a greater emphasis on grip for traction on wet, slippery terrains and stiffer, lateral support for the more uneven ground encountered with hiking and hill walking.
Typical materials for walking shoes or cross trainers will be a Vibram rubber sole and waterproof, breathable Gore-Tex linings for all weather use. All resulting in perfect shoes for an active outdoor lifestyle.
